Oxford Textbook Definition of Palliative Care
In 1993, the Introduction to the Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine,
Doyle, Hanks and MacDonald defined palliative care as:
"the study and management of patients with active, progressive, far-advanced disease
for whom the prognosis is limited and the focus of care is on the
quality of life."
A definition of Palliative Medicine was developed by
The American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.
