Frank D. Ferris, MD

Frank D. Ferris, MD is the Medical Director, Palliative Care Standards and Outcome Measures, San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care, a teaching affiliate of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He is a co-principal of the Education for Physicians on End-of-life Care (EPEC) Project ^TM based at Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago; an author and editor of CAPCManual, the editor of the Canadian Palliative Care Association's Proposed Norms of Practice for Palliative Care, 2001 and Chair of their Standards Committee. Dr. Ferris is a consultant to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, Mount Sinai Hospital, a teaching affiliate of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and a co-founder of Toronto's HPCNet Project. He co-authored I Can't Stop Crying: It's So Hard When Someone You Love Dies with John Martin.

Dr. Ferris received an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Cooperative Applied Chemistry from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario in 1975. He graduated from Faculty of Health Sciences, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario in 1981. He pursued internship and residency training in Internal Medicine and Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto. He completed a Fellowship in Pain and Symptom Management at the Toronto-Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre in 1991. He became Board-certified with the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine in 1988. He continues with appointments as Lecturer, Department of Family and Community Medicine, and Member, Joint Centre for Bioethics, University of Toronto.
