Myra Glajchen, DSW, is the Director of the Institute for Education and Research in the Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. She has overall responsibility for education, training and curriculum development in pain and palliative care throughout the medical center, as well as oversight of the department's research protocols.. She has worked as a clinician, educator, researcher and administrator in the field of psychosocial oncology since 1984.

Dr. Glajchen is Principal Investigator for Beth Israel's Family Caregiver Initiative for families managing chronic, incurable illness, which includes validation of a brief caregiver distress scale, development of a Caregiver Resource Directory and implementation of a caregiver sub-page. In addition, Dr. Glajchen is Director of the Resource Center for Pain Medicine and Palliative Care, at Beth Israel Medical Center, an international clearinghouse for educational materials in pain and palliative care, and a nucleus of scholarship for staff, observers, trainees, patients and family caregivers.

Dr. Glajchen's work is published in professional journals including Journal of Psychosocial Oncology, Cancer Practice, J Pain Symptom Manage, Health and Social Work and Social Work with Groups.

A Fulbright scholar in 1981, Dr. Glajchen received both her MSW and DSW from Columbia University School of Social Work. Her BSW, cum laude, is from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. She is a member of the American Pain Society, the National Association of Oncology Social Workers, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Academy of Certified Social Workers.
